CUHK Releases Factors Reduce the Risk of Rebound Weight Gain

As it is known to all, being overweight may cause certain degree of inconvenience in daily living, it is also related to increased risk of developing diseases including hypertension and coronary heart disease etc. According to The Department of Health, in the last 5 years, there is about an average of 15-20% people who attempted to loss weight every year; however, the prevalence of overweight or obesity remains high at 40%. The data reflects people might not use effective weight loss method and rebound after weight loss is common.

In view of this, a telephone interview survey was conducted by Centre for Nutritional Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) during 2008-2009. Over 600 subjects were examined. Result shows that rebound after weight loss is more common among people with limited physical activity throughout weight loss period, losing weight too quickly and those who switch jobs frequently. Besides, lack of professional monitoring could be one of the major risks of weight rebound.
