Biography 

Professor Albert Lee is professor (Family Medicine), and also the Director of the Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion of the School of Public Health and Primary Care of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  He is also professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of Faculty of Education of the Chinese University of Hong Kong by courtesy of appointment.  He is currently the honorary consultant in Family Medicine of New Territories East and Kwong Wah Hospital. He established the first Master programme in Health Education and Health Promotion, and also Family Medicine in Hong Kong.
He received his medical degree from the University of London in 1984 with various awards and merit certificates.  He pursued postgraduate studies in Child Health at Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland, Master of Public Health and Doctorate degree in Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  He has been awarded fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Faculty of Public Health of Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Family Medicine), and Hong Kong College of Family Physicians.
His clinical specialty is Family Medicine and his research area of interest is family and community health with special interests in child and adolescent health, comprehensive school health programme, health education and health promotion, .primary care management of chronic disease and medical education.
He pioneered the concept of Health Promoting Schools in Hong Kong to promote child and adolescent health and also health of the community.  The work in community health is well recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and he has been invited by WHO to become temporary advisor on many occasions on school health and health promotion, and has been commissioned by WHO Regional Office to conduct international workshops and consultancy for other Asian and Pacific countries on school health.  He has written a thematic paper for the Knowledge Network on Urban Settings of WHO Commission on the Social Determinants of Health on “Improving Health and Building Human Capital through an effective primary care system and Healthy Setting approach.”  He is member of Steering Committee of Alliance for Healthy Cities and Chair the Award Committee.  He is also member of Steering Committee of International School Health Network.
He has published over 140 papers in peer reviewed journals and has been invited as speakers in many international conferences, and is editor and/or editorial board member and serves as journal reviewer of numerous local and leading international journals. He has been successful in obtaining research grant over HK$90 million (US1 ~ HK$7.8). Professor Lee received the award for Chief Executive Commendation for Community Services in the 2004 Honours list of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
