Biography 

Professor Griffiths is the Director of the School of Public Health and Primary Care. Qualified as a doctor, she has held a variety of service posts with academic links at international, national, regional and local level whilst based in the UK including Chair of the Association for Public Health, co-founded the UKPHA and President of the UK Faculty of Public Health.  
In 2003 she co-chaired the Hong Kong Government’s expert committee into the SARS epidemic. This led to her present appointment in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Active in public health professional organizations and collaborating across the healthcare and academic systems within the region, her research interests include developing primary care and community health systems, addressing health inequalities/inequities and developing public health education.  She was a member of the Bahunia Foundations health reform advisory group, is convenor of HK Food and Health Bureau’s concepts for primary care reform, advisor to the Department of Health including on their Non Communicable Disease strategy and has a series of collaborations within mainland China.  Her specific research focus is on health of migrants and the development of public health and primary care systems and capacity. She is leading the development of the new BSc course in public health at the School of Public Health and Primary Care and is Director of the Masters in Public Health Programme.
She has honorary academic appointments at Guangzhou Medical College, Peking University School of Public Health and Primary Care, Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Cardiff University with whom active links with Chongqing are in place.  She remains honorary senior clinical lecturer in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care of Oxford University, and actively promotes student exchange and research links through their Global MSc. She was recently appointed to the Centre for Migration Studies in Zhongshan University.
