Biography

Prof. Wei is qualified as a medical doctor through medical training in Jining Medical College and Master of Public Health training in the Medical Science Centre of the Peking University, China. He earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, Canada. He holds the fellowship of of the Faculty of Public Health of UK. Previously, Prof Wei has had worked in the Centre of Health Information Statistics at the China Ministry of Health, and the Centre for International Health at the University of Toronto for more than 5 years. He also has worked as the vice president of the state-owned Shanghai Zhangjiang Biotech and Pharma Base Development Co. Before joining the CUHK, Prof Wei worked as a senior research fellow in the Nuffield Centre of International Health and Development at the University of Leeds, UK. He has provided consultancy as a technical advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) on the control of tuberculosis and influenza, as well as the National Reform and Planning Committee and Ministry of Health on primary care and tuberculosis care. In CUHK, he is the PI leading Comdis HSD China Research Programme funded by the UK Aid, a RGC SPPR project on primary care comparison, and a WHO project on extensive tuberculosis case finding from heavy smokers. He has been elected as the Vice Chair of Tobacco Control Section of the International Union against TB and Lung Disease, headquartered in Paris, since 2011. In addition to that, Prof. Wei is jointly appointed as an honorary senior research fellow in the University of Leeds, UK, and visiting professor in public health schools of the Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shandong University and Kunming Medical University.
