Dr. Hong FUNG, currently the Cluster Chief Executive of the New Territories East Cluster at the Hospital Authority, is responsible for the managing the 7 public hospitals in the New Territories East Region with over 4,600 beds and 8,800 staff, serving a population of 1.3 million. He is also the Hospital Chief Executive of the Prince of Wales Hospital, the teaching hospital of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
At the Hospital Authority corporate office, Dr. Fung is the chairman of the Clinical Informatics Program Steering Group which spearheads the development of the clinical information systems and electronic patient records.
Before his current appointment in 2002, he was responsible for the planning and development of the public hospital services and facilities in the Hospital Authority as the Director in Hospital Planning & Development. He was appointed as a member of the Policy & Management Research Expert Committee under the Ministry of Health, Peoples' Republic of China, in 2001-2005.
Dr. Fung is heavily involved in the development of his profession. He coordinates the development of Administrative Medicine as a specialty and is the Council Member and Program Director for the training in Administrative Medicine at the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine. He is the Director of Development of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and helps in developing the directions for future surgical training. Dr Fung is actively involved in the teaching of health services management for the Master in Public Health programs at both The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong.
