Professor Lee has extensive experience in public health at both local and international levels. He has been the founding president of several professional associations including the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine, the Hong Kong Society for Infectious Diseases, The Hong Kong Health Promotion and Health Education Foundation and Hong Kong Epidemiological Association.
Currently, Professor Lee is the Vice-President of the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association, President of the World Association of Chinese Public Health Professionals, Honorary President of the Chinese Tuberculosis Association, Chairman of the Prevention of Legionnaires Diseases Association and President of The Hong Kong Health Promotion and Health Education Foundation. He joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong as Professor and Chairman of Department of Community and Family Medicine in 1994, and later as Director of School of Public Health and Primary Care from 1999 to 2001. Prior to that, Professor Lee served in the Government as a health official for 34 years. He joined the government in 1960 as a Medical and Health Officer, and by 1989 and up till 1994, was Director of Health. Professor Lee is Emeritus Professor of Community Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also Honorary Advisor of the School of Public Health and Primary Care, Advisor for External Affairs of the Institute of Chinese Medicine, and Chairman of the Health promotion on Campus Steering Committee in the University.
Professor Lee has been awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and a Medal from the WHO in recognition of his contributions to public health. Professor Lee has also been awarded by the Asia-Pacific Consortium of Public Health in recognition of his outstanding contribution to public health in Asia – Pacific Region.
