Activities Areas

Prof Emily Chan

We propose four major activity areas:

- Education and training

  • To establish public health education programmes to meet the needs of communities, run either at CUHK or at a distant base;
  • To place School of Public Health and Primary Care students in public health field practices;
  • To provide technical training and organize scientific meetings and events in the Asia-Pacific Region; and
  • To educate and engage the public in humanitarian issues.

- Research and evaluation

  • To establish research fellowships to enable scholars from Asia pacific countries to study public health issues based at CUHK .These fellowships may be for short periods or for a full course [MPH, PhD] and field work may be in country of origin;
  • To conduct relevant field-based research (such as field need assessments and health impact evaluations);
  • To exchange ideas /develop effective strategies through exchange with international health experts; and
  • To hold forums such as conferences and seminars and disseminate learning.

- Policy development

  • To support development of healthy public policy in developing countries;
  • To advance policy development in health systems;
  • To advise governments and NGOs in public health policy development;
  • To support health and human rights through our work; and
  • To propose policy formulation frameworks for developing countries and fragile states in the Asia Pacific region.

- Public health relief and post-emergency assistance

  • To advise and support the establishment of public health programmes in post-emergency settings (such as natural disasters and armed conflicts);
  • To evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of post-emergency public health programmes; and
  • To create formal link to relevant NGOs, such as MSF, Red Cross.
