[Seminar] Individual Participant Data Meta-analysis and Research Trustworthiness: How They Reshape Evidence-based Medicine
Evidence-based medicine integrates the clinician's experience, the patient's values, and the best available evidence to guide decision-making about clinical management. The reliability of available evidence is paramount to the outcomes of health care in modern practice. Traditional evidence synthesis based on aggregate data has been increasingly challenged by the emergence of untrustworthy publications and predatory publishing. The use of row-by-row data in evidence synthesis improves the quality and practicality of evidence synthesis findings. Individual participant data meta-analysis is becoming the new ‘gold standard’ in evidence synthesis. However, these novel approaches are not without challenges. We will discuss the need to consider research trustworthiness in evidence synthesis and the know-how in using individual data in this seminar.

About the speaker
Dr Wentao Li is a clinical epidemiologist and trialist. He received his PhD in Public Health from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in Nov 2017 and has been working at the Centre of Evidence-based Women’s Health Care of Monash University since July 2018. His current research focuses on randomized controlled trials and next-generation evidence synthesis in women’s health. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and published as the senior author in top medicine and women’s health journals, including the Lancet, Human Reproduction Update, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr Li is an editor of two flagship journals of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
