個人簡介

Professor Kelvin Tsoi is an Epidemiologist specialized in Digital Health. His research interests focus on digital innovation in chronic disease management, including mobile and telecare application for hypertension management, technological implementation and social engagement for cognitive screening, artificial intelligent application on electronic health records. He also works as the traditional epidemiologist on evidence-based medicine and population cohort studies.

 

He obtained his Bachler Degree from Department of Statistics and Doctor of Philosophy from School of Public Health in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He further received post-doctoral training in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics. He was also appointed as a Director of CUHK JC Bowel Cancer Education Centre to promote colorectal cancer screening. In 2011, he worked as a research scientist in Hospital Authority. He led projects covering a wide range of service areas on chronic diseases, such as service demand projection for schizophrenia and dementia. The experience of database management enhanced his understanding of the HA database structures. In 2013, he was invited to join the interdisciplinary team for Big Data research and worked closely with a team of engineers and data scientists. Currently, Professor Tsoi is an Associate Professor in JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, SH big Data Decision Analytics Research Centre and JC Institute of Ageing.

 

Professor Tsoi has published over 100 publications in Medical Journals and Short Papers in Engineering Conferences. With his efforts and contributions in the interdisciplinary research, he was awarded both “IBM Honorarium Award” at the International Conference on System Sciences and “The President’s Prize for Best Paper Presentation” at the Annual Scientific Meeting, Hong Kong College of Community Medicine in 2017. His research projects were further supported by Sustainable Knowledge Transfer Project Fund (SKPF) from the University. In 2019, he set up a social enterprise, DeepHealth Limited, at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks to promote artificial intelligent applications of wearable and mobile devices for better health management. His team developed a mobile blood pressure management platform with the application of image recognition techniques, so users can easily collect personal health data through the camera of their smart phones. He believes that healthcare start-ups potentially generate new forms of data for further epidemiological research.  

 

Professor Tsoi is an academic pioneer to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between medical schools and engineering departments; and further promote research participation in Digital Health. He worked with his research collaborators from Stanford University, Columbia University, University of Rochester, University of Sydney, University of Leeds, University of Southampton, University of Reading, University of British Columbia, and National University of Singapore to organize the 1st International Symposium on Digital Health (ISDH2019). After the symposium, he was nominated as the President of the International Society for Digital Health to promote the interdisciplinary research network. With global vision and professional experience, he also serves as an advisor in the Society for Innovative Healthcare Hong Kong. This is an important action for him to apply his knowledge to serve our community in Hong Kong.
