A warm welcome to Professor Chris Butler, who has been appointed as the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians (HKCFP) Visiting Professor in Family Medicine at The JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, CUHK. He is visiting the School from late February to early March 2024. Professor Chris Butler, Professor of Primary Care, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, currently leads the Infections and Acute Care Research Group at Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, and is Clinical Director of the University of Oxford Primary Care Clinical Trials Unit.

With a multifaceted background, Professor Butler's teaching and research efforts span various domains within public health and primary care. He has published over 500 papers and led or helped lead approximately 30 randomised clinical trials, and has recently published trial results in the world’s top three general medical journals. He is the chief investigator of the PRINCIPLE and PANORAMIC trials of treatments for COVID-19 in the community; between them, these trials randomised over 40,000 people with covid to evaluate nine different medicines.

During his visit, Professor Butler will engage in academic exchanges with faculty members and students of the School. His first lecture at the School, titled "Exploring the Methodology of Adaptive Platform Trials", was successfully held on 27 February. The lecture drew active participation and insightful engagement from participants.

With the success of the first lecture, we are confident that his upcoming keynote lecture at the CUHK Primary Care Research Symposium on 2 March 2024 (Sat) will similarly be a compelling and enriching experience. Interested individuals are welcome to join the Symposium and benefit from Professor Butler's expertise. Registration is free, and light refreshments will be provided.

We are delighted and grateful to have Professor Butler visiting our School and trust that his visit will be mutually beneficial.
